Vocational School vs College. Is it worth it to go to a four year college stay for 6-7 only to need more education for a Master and then a PhD to follow the process of having a great job and at the end in debt having to pay back student loan which is like a Mortgage payment before having a Mortgage? Just to make a salary of a skilled tradesman or tradeswoman make in less time and more consistently career opportunity. Half of the half final cost, time in school that you will never get back, will you need anyone the things learned at school and will there be a job when completed that will sustain the times. Pandemic got so many rethinking their plan and goals. Most going to entrepreneurship to invest in themselves because people were left holding the bag when the institutions furloughed, laid off, restructured, went online, or just simply closed. They quit on their families.
It was poor planning as one of the downfalls to being in a College setting. No one will tell you not to take the class that will not go for your degree. Colleges need money to survive like everyone else and everyone is trying to stop the bleeding of not making a profit or being self-sustaining. Unless, you were the very few that was able to pivot. Some of those industry would be Information Systems, Information Technology, Apps, Uber eats, Door dash, Marketable Skilled trades, companies making condienments and single packages just to name a few.
As with a Trade school the course are predetermined with the focus on preparing students for the workplace. Having to call off for school like k-12 makes the individual responsible for absences, tardiness and appointments. Whereas college some there is no attendance p just that you pass the course. Some if you have a high enough score there is no need to do the final exam. With all these pros and cons to each, I will have many cites for research since this is a much published story and have be a conversation is many household dinner tables.
The Armed Services is another avenue as a Plan B or C from college. It has benefits and when won’t America not need Armed services. So we will have a plethora of research information for pros and cons.
As a conclusion I will ask again, IS IT WORTH IT? Dealing with my own learned lessons coming to get my degree after having to quit multiple times because life got in the way. I will be coming from a true place of not having a degree, to wanting a degree to prove to an institution that I belong it, to I’m doing it for myself because at the end of the day that degree goes with me and my employer paid for the education.
